Why Strength Training Matters During Perimenopause & Menopause
Perimenopause and menopause are associated with changes that can affect muscle, bone, body composition, and physical performance. Declining estrogen levels contribute to accelerated bone loss around the menopausal transition, while maintaining muscle mass and strength becomes increasingly important with age.
Progressive resistance training provides a powerful stimulus for maintaining and building muscle, improving strength, and supporting bone health. The goal isn’t simply to exercise more — it’s to train in a way that gives your body a reason to stay strong.
Building & Maintaining Muscle
Muscle is essential for much more than appearance. It supports strength, mobility, metabolic health, balance, and the ability to continue doing everyday activities independently.
Our training uses progressive resistance — gradually increasing the challenge as your body adapts — to help women build and preserve muscle rather than simply accumulating exercise.
Supporting Bone Health
Bone health becomes particularly important around menopause because bone loss can accelerate during the menopausal transition.
Appropriately designed resistance training places mechanical load on the skeleton while simultaneously strengthening the muscles that support movement, balance, and physical function.
Strength training is therefore an important component of a broader strategy for maintaining musculoskeletal health as we age.
Training That Meets You Where You Are
You do not need previous weight-training experience. We work with complete beginners and women returning to lifting, as well as experienced exercisers who want more structure.
Your coach starts with your goals, training history, and current movement ability. Sessions emphasize lifting technique, an appropriate starting challenge, and gradual progression. Training can be adjusted to your experience and how you are feeling that day.
